“The Centre for Independent Living Toronto has a long history of pioneering and supporting the Independent Living model of service to empower people with physical disabilities. This model is not just a philosophy, but a standard for support that we can all strive to uphold. Throughout my career, I have always worked to provide services under the Independent Living philosophy. The fundamental values of Independent Living promote and support autonomy, dignity, the right to risk, the recognition that the consumer knows their own needs best, and that the consumer can direct support in a way that best fits their specific needs.
