Self-expression feels free.
Understood
seen
cared-for
connection.
Risky when expressing disability could be
misunderstood
erased
isolated
Invisibilized.
How will I be received?
Self-expression brings us together,
Releasing our identities from the walls we create
to feel protected.
Setting free identities
tastes like licorice jelly beans.
Feels like body as a pathway to talk about emotions and illness.
Feels like being in a group of other wheelchair users.
Feels proud.
Feels like relief.
All of our identities shown without shame
Many words describe us,
we are lots of different things
including disability.
