At the intersections of Blackness and Disability: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build
Description: Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities. While the 2024 theme for Black History Month is: “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build”, this event represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the lived experiences of Black and Disabled communities in Toronto.
Disabled speakers from the Black community will share their knowledge and experiences about the legacies of Black people with Disabilities, community resistance in Toronto, and answer the question: What would a Toronto that prioritizes Blackness and Disability Justice look like?
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join. Those of us who are not Black are encouraged to listen and learn from the expertise and vision of our speakers.
When: Monday February 26, 2024, 1:00-2:30PM Eastern Time (Canada)
Access Supports: ASL-English interpretation and CART Captioning will be provided.
