Writing Independent Living Workshop
Join disabled writers Dev Ramsawakh and Rebecca Wood to celebrate Disability Pride Month and prepare for CILT’s inaugural community forum on Independent Living with this 90-minute virtual workshop where we will be exploring what Independent Living (IL) means to us through creating community definitions and playing with prompts based on IL principles.
Date: Wednesday July 15, 2026
Time: 1pm-2:30pm
Registration through Zoom
Spots are limited. Please register by Monday, July 6 at 12pm. This cross-disability program is open to people with disabilities living in Ontario.
We will have time for group discussion, writing independently, a break in the middle of the session, about 15 minutes of writing time, and the opportunity to share what we have written (optional). We would like to share collectively created definitions of IL as part of the forum. There may be opportunity to share other pieces of writing with participants’ permission.
Anyone curious about writing is welcome! Whether you use voice to text, a pen and paper, a brailler or you prefer typing or bringing someone with you to transcribe when writing, all methods of playing with words are welcome!
Access: ASL-English interpretation will be provided if need is confirmed by July 6. Auto captions will be turned on. We will provide visual descriptions of any images. There will be a 10-minute break. Please feel free to stim, take breaks, and take care of your brain and body as you need throughout the session. A follow-up email will be sent after the session that includes prompts, writing resources, and a feedback form.
If you need support with filling out the registration form, please contact Robin Simmons by e-mail at robin.simmons@cilt.ca or call 416-599-2458 ext. 293.
