Good news for all consumers: the TTC strike that was officially supposed to begin today has been averted! A last-minute agreement was reached between the Amalgamated Transit Union and the TTC yesterday afternoon at 4:30 PM. TTC Chairman Howard Moscoe and union Local 113 President Bob Kinnear reached a tentative agreement that has the TTC working with the union to move toward regulatory work schedules eliminating sudden scheduling changes for staff. The TTC will also increase worker salaries, benefits and pensions by $6 million. In addition, workers will receive a pay hike of 2.75% in the first year of the contract, 3% in the second, and 3.25% in the third. A ratification vote is scheduled for Thursday.
