Mayor David Miller and Toronto City Council invite you to contribute to the City by serving on the Boards of Directors of Build Toronto and/or Invest Toronto. Build Toronto and Invest Toronto are two newly-formed business corporations owned by the City of Toronto.
The mission of Build Toronto is to work with private and public sector partners to unlock value in underutilized City lands and use the available City and ABC (agencies, boards and commissions) land base to attract targeted industries. Board members should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: real estate law, planning and development, capital financing, environmental remediation, and construction. Seven citizen positions on the 11 member board are available; other members of the Board are the Mayor and other City officials.
The mission of Invest Toronto is to engage the private sector in marketing and promotion activities to increase business investment and create desirable jobs in Toronto. Board members should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: international business, academics, marketing, government relations, labour, tourism or other marketing linkages. Twelve citizen positions on the 19 member board are available; other members of the Board are the Mayor and other City officials.
Board members are expected to attend meetings of the boards and its committees. Time will also be required for agenda review, meeting preparation and special events. The term of the appointment is two years, with a two-year renewal term. Board members must demonstrate business acumen, independence of judgement and personal integrity.
