The City of Toronto is now directly managing the centralized waiting list for social housing, and has agreed with Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) to transfer this function to the City. The valued employees of Housing Connections, until yesterday a subsidiary of TCHC, have joined Shelter, Support and Housing Administration to become a unit within the Social Housing Unit. For the thousands of clients with new or existing applications for subsidized housing, and for the agencies and workers who support them, it is business as usual. There are no changes to how people may contact Housing Connections:
• Call centre: 416-981-6111, M-F, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
• Online: www.housingconnections.ca
• In person: Resource Centre, 176 Elm Street, M, Wed-Fri, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Tues, 10 am to 6 pm
The return to the City of waiting list administration was directed by City Council last May. The transfer is expected to be completed by yearend.
The City is looking to provide those on the waiting list for social housing with a range of services and options to meet their affordable housing needs.
