The Inclusion of Disability Equity and Access (IDE+A) project, funded by United Way Greater Toronto, aims to help non-profits enhance disability equity and inclusion in their strategies, policies, and programs.
It was launched in spring 2022 with the formation of the IDE+A steering committee comprised of Deaf and Disabled people with intersectional, cross-disability lived experiences. The steering committee worked together to create an introductory Disability equity, diversity and inclusion workshop, Foundations of Disability Inclusion, and a “train-the-trainer” approach for members of the steering committee to become facilitators for this workshop.
Highlights of the IDE+A project include:
- Over 40 workshops delivered to GTA non-profits from 2023-2024
- Hosting a 2-day symposium that attracted 165 attendees from the Deaf and Disabled communities, community organizations and other non-profits (Fall 2022)
- Developing a Community Access resource toolkit for organizations to utilize as guidance to apply learnings and strategies from the workshops.
